Eine single ice sphere consists of the following components:

> 1 LED
> 1 Lithium disc batterie
> 1 colored balloon

The sticky tape to agglutinate the LED to the batterie is not included.

LED Ice Sphere:

The LED Ice Sphere is another LED streetart idea based on LED-Throwies.
You can use that glowing ice spheres in winter as a illuminating for youre
party, youre balcony or for youre garden.

In a long time test our LED ice sphere glowed in our fridge for 12 month.
It is possible that the livetime of the ice sphere is much lower then that  at  
lower temperatures or at fluctuating temperatures.

Assembling an LED Ice Sphere:

Stick the LED and the batterie together. The longer contact of the LED should touch
the positive pole of the batterie. Use a crystal clear tape to fix both components together.
Make sure that the batterie is waterprof taped. It is not nessesary that the LED
contacts are fully taped.

Push this components in a balloon of the same color.
Fill the balloon with ca. 1/2 liter of water till it gets the size of an orange.

Knot the ballon and put it in youre fridge over night.
At the next morning you can cut the Ballon and seperate the LED ice sphere.
You can store the glowing ice sphere now in youre fridge till you want to use it.


Professional assembling:

Water from youre spigot includes little bubbles. That makes youre ice sphere a bit cloudy.
If you cook the water and use that water after it is cool again, you will get
a crystal clear ice sphere. You also can use bubblefree table water.

Placing the LED in the middle of the ice sphere produces a much nicer glowing.
It also prevents stresses in the ice. Bind the LED on a bright thin wire, bevor you
put it in the ballon. Be sure that the LED is hanging in the middle of the sphere,
then tape the other side of the wire to the outside of the ballon and knot the balloon.
You can cut the rest of the wire after freezing the sphere.

Security warning: A led is producing very little heat. But that is enough to causing
stresses to the ice. If youre ice sphere is not completly frozen or the LED is placed
in a bad position it might splitting. Test youre ice sphere after you cuted of the balloon!
Smack youre ice sphere (gentle) on a Table. An insecure ice sphere will splitting instantly
at this test.
Protect youre eyes against ice shivers during that test. (This is really nessesary.)
Never forget that the ice sphere includes a battery. So pleace do not use it in a fruit punch at youre party
or with any other drink or food together.
